Ms. Amsler's Artroom

Each student chose an animal to draw from a wide selection of books and reference pictures, and centered their animal against a rectangular frame in the middle of the paper. They had to compose the picture so that the animal crossed the rectangle, or “broke the edge”, at least twice. This helped to create the illusion that the animal is indeed “in front”. The students then filled the negative spaces (the areas behind the animal,) with “Zentangles” a unique pattern making technique. The result is a striking value contrast between the positive space, (the animal) and the densely patterned negative space!
