Zentangle Zoo Drawings

Each student chose an animal to draw from a wide selection of books and reference pictures, and centered their animal against a rectangular frame in the middle of the paper. They had to compose the picture so that the animal crossed the rectangle, or “broke the edge”, at least twice. This helped to create the illusion that the animal is indeed “in front”. The students then filled the negative spaces (the areas behind the animal,) with “Zentangles” a unique pattern making technique. The result is a striking value contrast between the positive space, (the animal) and the densely patterned negative space!

    Hello!

I was wondering what size paper you used? For the animal photos, I was going to have them copy and paste in Google and crop to enlarge the animal. 2nd year teaching so lots of figuring out for me!!

    Thanks!
